Ever wanted to own Al Pacino’s Homburg hat or a kilt worn by the Duke of Windsor? Now’s your chance.
On Sunday, Beverly Hills-based Julien’s Auctions will hold a sale called “Men’s Bold Luxury: The Tailor Made Edit” featuring those and some 100 other classic men’s items. They include a John Galliano tailcoat from his first collection in 1985 that was part of Sir Elton John’s wardrobe (estimated to sell for $8,000 to $12,000); Gianni Versace’s Miami Western shirt and custom Richard James suits, and a rare tailored look from Steve Jobs’ wardrobe.
“With ‘The Tailor Made Edit’ we’re extending the Julien’s Bold Luxury lens to spotlight the timeless power of menswear — where craftsmanship meets charisma, and history meets individuality,” said Gabriela Schwartz, managing director and head of luxury and corporate brand partnerships for Julien’s. “Coming on the heels of a cultural moment that’s redefined modern tailoring, this sale couldn’t be more timely. It celebrates the icons who’ve defined personal style on their own terms, and invites collectors of all identities to engage with fashion not as a trend, but as legacy. Bold Luxury isn’t just about what you wear — it’s about owning pieces that tell a story.”
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraising gala was titled: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and focused on menswear for the first time.
At Julien’s, the auction also includes pieces that are less formal as well, such as a Dior ostrich coat, a Jean Paul Gaultier black lace coat (estimated at $1,000 to $2,000), Prada shoes and luggage and leather goods from Hermès and Gucci. The Pacino Homburg hat is estimated to sell for $2,000 to $3,000.
