New Insurance Offers Hobby Pilots Peace of Mind
Moonrock Drone Insurance, a specialist managing general agent (MGA), has expanded its offerings to include insurance for hobbyist and recreational drone pilots. This new coverage is supported by capacity from Hiscox, an A-rated insurer.
The policy covers drone equipment up to £15,000 and includes public liability insurance of up to £1,000,000. Coverage features include protection against physical loss, accidental damage, fly-aways, and theft. The policy also offers worldwide coverage, including the USA and Canada, and applies to indoor flights.
Claims will be managed by a dedicated Hiscox team to ensure a smooth customer experience. Recreational drone pilots can now access this coverage directly through the Moonrock website, which was recently updated to improve user experience and provide information about drone regulations.
Simplified Insurance for Hobby Pilots
Simon Ritterband, founder and Managing Director of Moonrock, emphasized the importance of providing affordable and comprehensive coverage for hobby pilots. He explained:
“Drones can often be an expensive hobby and pilots must also consider the fact their drone might actually injure somebody or damage property. That’s why we believe it is essential to have the right protection in place.
“There are currently hundreds of thousands of drone operators in the UK, with many of them flying for enjoyment, and we’re really pleased we can now offer this cover for pilots who may have previously found it impossible to get the right insurance. Now the right protection is only a click away.”
Ritterband added: “The commercial drone industry is growing at a rate of knots, and we don’t want to see uninsured hobby pilots affect the reputation of the highly professional commercial market. We think it’s incredibly important for hobby pilots to have adequate cover in place.
The company’s new offering aligns with the increasing professionalization of the drone industry. Moonrock aims to support both recreational and commercial operators by ensuring hobby pilots have access to proper insurance.
The new product underlines Moonrock Drone Insurance as a provider that can help all types of drone pilots. It now offers a whole suite of products and can insure individual hobbyists and large companies operating drones for commercial purposes. Its products support pioneering operations such as Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight flights, drone delivery to offshore wind turbines, agricultural seed spreading and the use of drones in TV and film.
A User-Friendly Approach to Drone Insurance
Moonrock’s insurance policies are designed for simplicity. Customers can select the hobbyist cover and complete their purchase online by answering a few straightforward questions. Ritterband added:
“We’ve been developing this product for two years and really pleased to have Hiscox on board as our insurer, which we hope will bring peace of mind to the thousands of recreational pilots out there.”
