Doublet x Asics Gel-Quantum 360 I AMP ‘Dinosaur’ Release Date

Doublet, the experimental Tokyo-based brand known for its spike-covered sneakers and shoes that resemble animals, is working with fellow Japanese label Asics for an eye-catching new collaboration that looks like the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur. 

Set for a Saturday launch is the Doublet x Asics Gel-Quantum 360 I AMP featuring a playful “Dinozaurus” theme. Announced Tuesday by Doublet through a short film, the latest collaboration between the two Japanese brands is its most daring yet. The 360-degree-Gel-cushioned sneakers feature an upper printed with a realistic dinosaur face. According to Asics, the idea for the head-turning look was inspired by the sole of the Gel-Quantum 360 I AMP model, which is described as resembling the “teeth of a living organism.”

“‘Dinozaurus’ was adopted as a design motif because the shape of the shoes was linear like a dinosaur’s head. Instead of just printing the face of the dinosaur, the face line of the ocular nose tendon symbolizing the rabidity of ‘Dinozaurus’ is inserted inside the mesh to reproduce the three-dimensional shape. Clear prints are applied to each upper area to show the realistic sense of the dinosaurs,” reads an Asics description translated from Japanese.
