The Airwrap’s biggest claim to fame? Its ability to cut styling time in half while also using less damage-inducing heat compared to other styling tools, such as blow dryers and straighteners. “Intense and repetitive heat damages the cuticle and can weaken the hair,” board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD previously told Well+Good. “Any time one can find an alternative tool source for styling it may be optimal.”

Rather than use extreme heat to style the hair, the Airwrap relies on an aerodynamic phenomenon known as the Coanda effect, which “occurs when air, propelled at the right speed and pressure, naturally follows an adjacent surface, entraining surrounding air and with it—hair,” according to the Dyson website. Basically, it combines powerful airflow with controlled heat to dry and style your hair at the same time, helping to protect your hair’s natural shine and strength as well.

To ensure that your hair won’t suffer from extreme heat damage, the Airwrap has built-in intelligent heat control that measures the airflow’s temperature a whopping 40 times a second to verify that the temperature never goes over 302°F.

When bought through the Dyson Airwrap sale on QVC, you’ll receive a convenient traveling pouch, paddle brush, and six styling attachments that can be used for all of your styling needs, whether you want a volumized blowout or bouncy curls. The Dyson website recommends that you use the brushes and Coanda smoothing dryer on freshly washed hair (read: wet hair), while the curling barrels work best on damp hair.

It’s easy to see how the Airwrap has won over the hearts of so many people, and yet another reason customers praise it is because of how quickly you can learn how to use it, despite how intimidating it can seem. “[I] was shocked to discover how easy it is to use on my 3A, wavy texture,” former Well+Good senior beauty editor Zoë Weiner previously wrote for Well+Good. “My entire head of thick hair was curled within 15 minutes, and to finish things off I blasted the top with the flyaway attachment, which gave it the sort of smoothing effect I’ve never managed to achieve with any other tool—the breakage and baby hairs on my crown basically disappeared.”

If you’re ready to snag an Airwrap for yourself, be sure to grab it from QVC’s website, since it’s sure to sell out quick. Happy styling (without the heat damage, of course)!
