SHAKE IT UP: Dior has named U.S. rapper 070 Shake as its latest brand ambassador.
The “Escapism” singer, born Danielle Balbuena, joins the roster of faces representing creative director Jonathan Anderson’s collections.
“Unique and visionary, the American singer, songwriter and producer has established herself as one of today’s most magnetic voices, at the convergence of rap and alternative pop,” the brand said in a statement shared exclusively with WWD.
“Her instinctive creativity, authenticity and energy resonate with the essence of Dior, embodying sensitive elegance in perpetual motion,” Dior added.
After breaking through with the 070 music collective, named after the postal code of her native New Jersey, Shake was signed in 2016 to Kanye West’s record label GOOD Music.
The artist of Dominican descent was a featured vocalist on West’s songs “Ghost Town” and “Violent Crimes” on the album “Ye,” and was also a guest performer on Pusha T’s album “Daytona” and Nas’ “Nasir.”
Since 2020, she has released three albums: “Modus Vivendi,” “You Can’t Kill Me” and “Petrichor.” She dedicated the latter to her girlfriend and “muse” Lily-Rose Depp.
Shake’s sound been described as a cross between rap, alt-pop and ambient. Her collaboration with Raye on “Escapism” is her highest charting track to date after going viral on TikTok. She is currently working on her fourth album.
Anderson has beefed up the ranks of Dior brand ambassadors in recent months with eclectic choices including Mikey Madison, Mia Goth and Greta Lee, in addition to Thai actresses Lingling Kwong and Orm Kornnaphat.
