The Baltimore Ravens added a significant playmaker to their offense this past week when they traded for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Diontae Johnson. The Ravens offense has impressed this season, leading the league in points scored, but Johnson adds considerable depth to a unit that already includes Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
How much will Diontae Johnson play in his Ravens debut?
The Ravens completed the trade on Tuesday, which means Johnson has had less than a week to get acclimated to the playbook. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson that, “he expects Diontae Johnson to play about 10-15 snaps.”
Prior to the trade, Johnson was dealing with a rib injury that sidelined him in Week 8. He was not on the Ravens injury report at all this week, so one has to imagine the Panthers were protecting him ahead of a pre-deadline trade.
Should I start or sit Diontae Johnson in Week 9 fantasy football?
Prior to the trade, Johnson ranked around WR3 in average fantasy points per game. This is the kind of game in which Johnson has an intriguing ceiling, but also as low a floor as you can expect of him this season. You are better served sitting him for the week unless you’ve got some roster desperation — or you enjoy a good gamble.
