Delvaux to Showcase Saul Steinberg’s Work at NYC Flagship

The oldest fine leather goods maison is bringing a slice of midcentury cultural history to New York with an installation dedicated to Saul Steinberg at its Fifth Avenue flagship. The showcase, which runs through February 2026, celebrates the artist’s work while underscoring Delvaux’s ongoing dialogue with art and design.

At the heart of the installation is a facsimile of “The Cocktail Party” from the Romanian-American artist’s celebrated mural series “The Americans,” originally commissioned for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. That same year marked a milestone for Delvaux as well — the launch of its signature Brillant bag, a design that has become synonymous with the brand’s craftsmanship and elegance.

The mural will be accompanied by additional original works lent by the Saul Steinberg Foundation, including “Untitled” (1965-1970), which has never been exhibited before. Steinberg, well-known for his illustrations for The New Yorker, is the latest artist the Belgian luxury brand has worked with, following previous collaborations with the Magritte Foundation and contemporary artist Kasper Bosmans.

“Steinberg’s work is fascinating because it questions what America was and how people interacted with it,” said Jean-Marc Loubier, chief executive officer of Delvaux. “His art blends humor and accessibility, much like what we try to do at Delvaux — combining creation and savoir-faire, history and innovation.”

The Fifth Avenue presentation signals Delvaux’s growing ambitions in the U.S. market. Alongside its New York flagship, the brand opened a boutique at South Coast Plaza earlier this year and plans further expansion. “We are experiencing a very dynamic growth. We plan to continue this expansion, with projects in Miami and Dallas,” Loubier said.
