Dealership Closes Rather Than Pay Customer It Screwed Over A Measly $3,000

Well, this is a new one: A woman in Toledo, Ohio got a major victory when a judge awarded her a court order against a dealership that sold her a faulty car, but it all fell apart when she went to collect and found out the goddamn dealership closed.

Earleta Homes bought a used car from Gold Star Auto in Toledo and within a few days, the transmission was already acting up. She insisted that if the car’s transmission went that quickly, the dealer would “have to have known [the car was broken] before you sold it to me.” The road to being made whole again by Gold Star Auto consisted of lots of haggling, warranty companies, estimates and evaluations. She eventually just gave the car back and was out thousands of dollars, according to 13 ABC.

“That put me so far behind, not having a car for like three months I didn’t have a car. I had to pay for rentals,” Holmes told the ABC affiliate. “I had to do what I had to do to get around.

Eventually, things started to look up when she won a judgment to get some – if not all – of her money back. That sounds like great news and the end of a miserable saga. Unfortunately for Holmes, things were about to get much worse.

So, as it turns out, Gold Star Autos is no more. There aren’t any cars on the lot and the phone number they listed now forwards to another dealership, 13 ABC reports. Because of that, Holmes has no place to enforce her court order and get her money back. What a goddamn scam, man.

It’s not immediately clear why Gold Star Autos packed up shop. I cannot imagine it was truly over this single court order, but dealers have done a lot more to get out of a lot less in the past.

Regardless of why or how this happened, the result is still the same for Holmes. She’s just pissed off Gold Star Autos would spend all of this money on a lawyer rather than just pay her the money she is rightfully owed.

“Then for them to pay an attorney which is what they probably could have paid me and be done with me was a slap in the face. I know that attorney didn’t come down for $50. So you pay a retainer, you pay him to come down several times to just from keeping to pay me $3000,” Holmes told 13 ABC.

Obviously, this story is far from over, so if we see any updates floating around in the ether, we’ll be sure to bring them to you.
