It has been a rough season for the Colorado Rockies.
Just one season after the Chicago White Sox set the record for the most losses in a major league baseball season with 121 the Colorado Rockies have made it seem like they are capable of outdoing that.
The Rockies lost to the New York Mets on Sunday to fall to 9-50 on the season, but baseball is a bounce-back sort of game and they began a new series with the Miami Marlins on Monday.
Golf is a bounce-back game as well and on these two specific subjects, after Scottie Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament on Sunday (the day that Colorado lost their 50th game) there was a big joke flying out around the internet about how he had as many wins individually since May 2nd (with a total of 3, including the PGA Championship) as the Rockies did. The difference in those two things is that Scheffler played in 4 events while the Rockies played 28 total games.
It was unfortunate collateral damage for the Rockies as the statistic served to prop up Scheffler but obviously tore them down in the process. As fate would have it the Rockies beat the Marlins on both Monday and Tuesday and in the process secured their first series win of the season.
After Wednesday’s finale against Miami, Colorado won again and therefore secured their first season sweep on top of the win, the Rockies social team had some fun and leaned into the bit. They noted that since June 2nd they have 3 wins to Scheffler’s 0.
This is some incredible humor and ability from the Rockies to laugh at themselves amid a horrible situation. Obviously they are not enjoying the fact that they have lost so much, but they should be proud of sweeping the Marlins and were probably tired of hearing the Scheffler statistic at their expense.
Up next for the Rockies is a series against the New York Mets, one of the best teams in baseball. Meanwhile Scottie Scheffler will next tee it up at next week’s U.S. Open in Oakmont.
It isn’t crazy to say that Scottie is more likely to win that major championship than the Rockies are even a single game against the Mets. But they are clearly proving to be a bit unpredictable so we will see!
