PARIS — A new year brings a new face — Charlize Theron — to Dior Capture, the relaunched Capture Totale skin care line.
“I’ve been part of the Dior family for over 20 years now, and to be able to continue this relationship in a new and exciting capacity is such an honor,” Theron said.
As previously reported in May, the South African star was appointed as the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned house’s ambassador for skin care and jewelry. She had previously been the longtime face of Dior’s J’Adore fragrance.
The actress and producer has further strengthened her collaboration with Dior on issues regarding social responsibility, especially women’s empowerment, reflecting her commitments as an activist and founder of the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.
Theron was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2008, with a focus on the prevention of HIV and the elimination of violence against women.
“Dior Capture expresses all the strength of women around the world, whatever their backgrounds, their stories and their life choices,” Theron said. “Dior delivers a message of universal femininity that looks beyond each woman’s personality and unique character, to draw strength from within and reveal an incomparable source of confidence: beautiful and youthful skin.”
Véronique Courtois, chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, said Theron was an obvious choice for Dior Capture.
“Her beauty, intelligence and values have epitomized the Dior woman, and her authenticity gives considerable credibility to this campaign,” Courtois said.
The first Dior Capture ad in which the actress and producer is set to appear will break on Jan. 1 worldwide. It was shot by Brigitte Lacombe.
Theron in 2003 won the Best Actress award at the Oscars for playing serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster.” She also has been granted numerous other awards during her film career, which includes roles in “Young Adult,” “Prometheus,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Atomic Blonde” and “Fast and Furious 10.”
In 2024, she appeared in “The Old Guard 2,” reprising her role as the immortal warrior Andromanche of Scythia, aka Andy.
Dior Capture is billed to be an expert in mother cell research applied to cosmetics. Its new product formulas, starting with a serum and day cream, were inspired by regenerative medicine, too, including how oxygen transport improves skin quality and reconstruction. The technology is powered by age-reversal technology, according to Dior.
The two products will be launched beginning on Dec. 26 on dior.com and in the U.S., followed by China on Dec. 27, and Japan and the European Union in January 2025.
The serum and cream formulas contain new technology called Oxygeno-Collagen, or OX-C, Treatment, based on a biopolymer of plant origin. It was created with a longstanding partner of Dior Science, the Center for iPS Cell Research Application and approved by two members of the Dior Reverse Aging Board.
That scientific advisory board started two years ago is comprised of 18 scientists from around the world, who focus on a dozen biological hallmarks of aging. Dior has signed a sponsored research agreement with Stanford Medicine and Vittorio Sebastiano, a member of the brand’s Reverse Aging Board, who specializes in stem cells and cellular reprogramming.
“Dior is taking this research into the future, to better understand the mechanisms of skin aging and invest the cosmetics of tomorrow that will delay the appearance of the signs of aging, and even visibly reverse the effects of time,” the brand said in a statement.
Prices for the Dior Capture OX-C Treatment Le Sérum will range from $145 for a 30-ml. bottle to $234 for a 75-ml. bottle. The 50-ml. jar of Crème Jour is to be priced at $145, with its refill at $125.
Capture Totale is Dior’s leading core antiaging skin care line. The 40-year-old brand kept outpacing its market in 2024, due to the recent strong showing of Hyalushot and Retishot, with patented technologies inspired by the dermo-esthetics universe, according to Courtois.
“Looking ahead to 2025, we are revisiting the core products of the line, the serum and the cream, with a renewed commitment to showcasing the pioneering spirit of this range, which was first introduced in 1986,” she said.
“This relaunch is a testament to the advanced expertise behind Capture, which boasts two decades of research and discoveries in skin stem cell science,” the executive continued. “The new iteration invests a new scientific territory using [an]oxygen carrier inspired by regenerative medicine. It also includes patented innovations like a new generation of liposomes, a field in which Capture was a trailblazer 40 years ago.”
Meanwhile, Theron is gearing up for a chockablock 2025.
“I’m getting ready to shoot a really fun and intense movie for Netflix next year, so I’m ready to get back on set and challenge myself,” she said. “We are also wrapping up ‘Old Guard 2,’ and I’m thrilled to get that out to the world soon.”
She said others are evidently psyched about that, too, based on comments on her Instagram feed.
“And I’m doing a lot of producing work with my company Secret Menu,” continued Theron. “We have some really exciting things brewing in the TV and documentary space. So I’m feeling 2025 is going to be busy for us.”
