As the fashion set travels between London and Milan for the show season, many in the international film community turned their attention to Spain. This week, the 72nd Annual San Sebastian International Film Festival was held. The competitive event hosted awards as well as screenings. This year, Cate Blanchett and Pedro Almodovar were among those honored. Javier Bardem also attended the event to pick up an honor he couldn’t receive last year as a result of the writer’s strike.
Here are some of the looks from the festival’s red carpet.
Cate Blanchett, “Rumours” Photocall
For her appearance at the photocall for “Rumours,” Cate Blanchett returned to a look she had worn before. The Armani global ambassador chose a double-breasted denim suit from the Italian brand featuring brown leather piping. The suit jacket features a sharp shoulder and elongated torso. She paired the suit with brown chunky boots from Hogan.
Mireia Oriol, “Soy Nevenka” Photocall
Disney’s “Soy Nevenka/I am Nevenka” photocall played host to Mireia Oriol. Styled by Freddy Alonso, she wore vintage Prada. Together, the pair selected a long ribbed cardigan in black featuring gold and brown leather trim from the brand’s spring 2008 collection. It was finished off with Bulgari earrings as well as black and gold Fairy sandals from Prada.

Set to be honored with the film festival’s greatest acolade, Cate Blanchett went golden. Appearing on the red carpet for the film “Rumours,” the star wore a custom Armani Prive gilded gown featuring pearl embellishments styled by Elizabeth Stewart. Ahead of the screening, she was presented with the Donostia Award.
Mirieia Oriol at “Soy Nevenka” Red Carpet Premiere
Later that night, Oriol appeared on the red carpet for the festival premiere of “Soy Nevenka/I am Nevenka.” For the occasion she went head-to-toe in Chanel, selecting a delicate pink and white dress from the spring 2024 haute couture collection. While that overall collection from Virginie Viard was inspired by ballet, this piece was made of a multitude of connected miniature florals. As on the runway, Oriol wore the dress with tights and strappy sandals.
Lupita Nyong’o, “The Wild Robot” Photocall
Lupita Nyong’o brought her own flowers to Spain. For her daytime photo moment, she wore a trompe-l’oeil dress from the brand PH5. Named the Jasmine, the piece is a tank dress with an asymmetrical bust-line. It is printed with an illusion-making effect that draws an hourglass silhouette. It also features a flower on the print in addition to a high side slit. Nyong’o’s stylist Micaela Erlanger, who has worked with the actress since her first breakout role, selected a pair of clear PVC Gianvito Rossi pumps to finish the look.

Nyong’o took her place on the red carpet for the screening of “The Wild Robot” with yet another flower. This time, she chose to wear a red flower on a choker. This complemented the floral embroidery on her sheer Dolce & Gabbana dress. The look featured a visible corset and, as has been a long-running theme of Nyong’o and Erlanger’s working relationship, was monochromatic. The actress also carried Dolce & Gabbana’s elongated Sicily bag featuring a top handle.
