Carolina Herrera and CFDA Partner for Women in Design Scholarship

As part of its ongoing Women in the Arts platform, Carolina Herrera is partnering with the CFDA in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the CFDA Scholarship program.

The Carolina Herrera and CFDA Women in Design Scholarship supports women and individuals who identify as women pursuing careers in fashion design by recognizing emerging talent that demonstrates both creative innovation and excellence in craftsmanship.

The scholarship program will honor two outstanding BFA fashion design students based in the New York tristate area. Each recipient will receive a $40,000 scholarship to support tuition, materials and portfolio development.

In addition to financial support, each awardee will participate in a summer internship with the Carolina Herrera design team at the brand’s Manhattan headquarters in the Garment District, gaining hands-on experience. The recipients will be revealed by Wes Gordon, creative director of Herrera.

“Mrs. Herrera began her career because another woman, Diana Vreeland, believed in her talent. Supporting the next generation of women in design is personal to our house, and one of our core missions. This scholarship is about honoring craft, celebrating innovation and ensuring the creative ambition is met with real opportunity,” Gordon said.

The scholarship is structured around two distinct pillars, each honoring a different student: Creative Technical Innovation and Luxury Craftsmanship. The Creative Technical Innovation award recognizes a student whose work explores forward-thinking design practices such as 3D printing, wearable technology, digital fabrication and interactive design, alongside a strong commitment to sustainable production development. The Luxury Craftsmanship award honors a student who demonstrates exceptional skill in traditional techniques such as precise garment construction and the refined use of luxury materials, alongside a thoughtful commitment to sustainability in craftsmanship and material sourcing.

Recipients will be selected based on the strength of their portfolio and financial need, with particular attention to creative vision, technical excellence and the integration of sustainable practices. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of representatives from the CFDA and Carolina Herrera. The deadline to apply is April 10 at 11:59 p.m. The link to apply is on the CFDA website.
