For the second week in a row the PGA Tour needed extra innings to decide a winner.
It was Brian Campbell who emerged victorious at the John Deere Classic and on the subject of the number two, that is how many wins he now has this season. Campbell previously won the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. Like the John Deere that win also required a playoff that Campbell won.
Winning in general on the PGA Tour is no small feat which means that winning twice in a season is particularly impressive. For a while this season only Rory McIlroy had done so, but as we have moved along with the summer that list has grown in number.
Brian Campbell is now the sixth player to win multiple times this season across the PGA Tour:
- Rory McIlroy
- Scottie Scheffler
- Ryan Fox
- Ben Griffin
- Sepp Straka
- Brian Campbell
Obviously both McIlroy and Scheffler each won a major championship this season on top of non-major events. They are two (there’s that number again) of the game’s biggest stars and will be heavily in contention in the Ryder Cup in September.
Ben Griffin will also likely be in the field at Bethpage as will Sepp Straka. Whether or not Brian Campbell is a part of that conversation is a matter only Captain Keegan Bradley, who may or may not be in the playing field himself, is privy to.
