Bratz and Blackbough Launche Swimwear Collection With Y2K Nostalgia

Bratz have joined forces with swimwear brand Blackbough for the latest collection inspired by the nostalgic dolls. Launched on Friday on Blackbough’s official website, the 29-piece collection features swimwear styles and accessories for summer.

The Bratz x Blackbough Swim: Summer Escapez collection is divided into themed mini-collections, capitalizing on the wave of Y2K nostalgia with pieces inspired by the Bratz dolls Cloe, Jade, Yasmin and Sasha. The designs and capsule names also channel the dolls’ alter egos: Angel, Kool Kat, Pretty Princess and Bunny Boo.

Pieces from the capsules feature camouflage, shimmering fabrics, floral embroidery, rhinestones, rivets and unexpected silhouettes, all crafted with beach days, poolside hangs and party nights in mind. Ten tops, 11 bottoms, two tankinis, one one-piece, one swim short, one swim skort, a towel and two playful pouches are featured.

Nostalgia for Bratz is on the rise. In May, Urban Sophistication reunited with Bratz for the launch of the two brands’ Leather Anon bag, with a campaign inspired by early 2000s tabloids. June saw Jean Paul Gaultier and Bratz partner on a limited-edition doll inspired by the designer’s distinct vision. Taking inspiration from the Bratz doll Sasha, the figurine features pieces evocative of a nautical style sensibility, including a white sailor hat paired with a blue and white striped shirt and a tartan skirt.

Apart from nostalgia-driven brands like Bratz, current sartorial and accessory trends are also taking inspiration from the early 2000s. Ballet flats, capris and more wardrobe pieces are on the rise, with contemporary twists and reclamation of the early 2000s looks.

The partnership with Bratz marks Blackbough’s latest collaboration. In July 2023, the swimwear label debuted a collection in collaboration with “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” the Prime Video series adapted from Jenny Han’s young adult book series.
