Bob Marley Adidas Handball Spezial, SL72 Release Date

A special edition of the Adidas Evo SL recently leaked with a makeover for Bob Marley and his love of soccer, and the scope of the project is fuller than expected, with the leak of two more sneakers.

The Bob Marley x Adidas Handball Spezial and SL72 expand upon the same theme of the hit running shoe with their own distinct visual identities.

With a cult following among soccer fans in the U.K., the former model brings in the logo of the Jamaica Football Federation on its mustache for even deeper ties to the sport. Its suede base is rendered in black suede, while leather striping arrives in green, yellow and red — the colors of the Rastafarian movement. A red insole with retro branding then features a badge with Bob Marley’s face, signature and the phrase “Football is Freedom” — a mark that also appears on the tongue of the Evo SL.

A streamlined version of this same mark sans-signature then appears on the tongue of the SL72, which gets a bold pattern replicating vinyl records and soundwaves as part of a busy arrangement of figures. The Three Stripes and mustache remain uniform in yellow leather, while black suede and leather are used for the remaining overlays and lining.

Marley was well known as a soccer player and fan, and Adidas has previously worked with his estate on official uniforms for two professional clubs, Ajax and Bohemian FC. The Dutch team uses Marley’s “Three Little Birds” as its unofficial anthem, and the design cues modeled after the late singer drew a ban because UEFA, the governing body of European club football, prohibits any marks not official for a club.

Leaks reveal Marley’s estate will also be involved in Jamaica’s 2026 kits, but Adidas has yet to officially reveal them.

The Bob Marley x Adidas Handball Spezial and SL72 will release Feb. 13 through Adidas’ website and select third-party retailers. Pricing for the Hanball is set at $120 and the SL72 $130.
