Encompassing four Birkenstock classics and two custom Danielle Frankel creations, the collection showcases lustrous fabrics and refined details paying homage to Frankel’s bridal collections.
Danielle Frankel Hirsch, who launched her eponymous label in 2017, is a longtime Birkenstock customer. Frankel Hirsch told FN, “My entire family owns multiple pairs that we wear year-round. This partnership is rooted in my true admiration for the Birkenstock brand and product. Its heritage and consistent commitment to craftsmanship is inspirational for me professionally in how we try to shape Danielle Frankel as a brand.”

In the collaborative collection, Birkenstock’s first sandal, the Madrid, launched in 1963, features slender ties accentuating its minimalist lines. The Arizona sandal is redone in pure white satin with rhythmic pearls, and there’s a pared-back unisex black version as well. The Tulum features a dainty pearl trim along its cross-over straps and flows into a slingback strap. Two styles are custom Danielle Frankel creations, the hand-painted Danielle Frankel Bespoke Boston and the Danielle Frankel Bespoke Arizona hand-embroidered with chiffon blooms. Stas Komarovski shot the campaign for the collaboration in Paris, in which the footwear is modeled with Frankel’s bridal gowns.
Frankel Hirsch said of 2026 trends, noting the bespoke styles in the collection, “Custom and customized looks are a core, and rapidly growing part of our business, and something we are really proud to offer our brides. We’re seeing more customers wanting something that feels distinctly their own, and with this collection we’re excited to extend that to footwear.”

Following the usual Danielle Frankel approach, the collaborative design process began by deconstructing Birkenstock sandals to understand their craftsmanship.
“The core idea became treating each style almost as jewelry, applied to classic Birkenstock silhouettes. We played with pearls, their proportions, and how they would be incorporated at the seams of the shoes,” Frankel Hirsch shared. “We are also very specific about the fabrication of our gowns, and it was essential for us to use satin of the best quality and the right color.”
A point of pride in the collection for the designer is creating a buckle-less version of the signature Arizona sandal: “It felt so clean. Birkenstock was willing to work with us to create the first hidden closure, and it was incredibly special to be part of developing a new feature for their classic styles.”

As is the case for all Danielle Frankel designs, the design approach was centered around the customer identity and how they want to feel on their wedding day. Frankel Hirsch believes the collection speaks to the spirit of modern weddings, and sees the shoes as useful outside of the wedding day as well.
“Our brides are looking for designs that prioritize beauty and innovation while allowing them to be fully present and comfortable throughout their celebration,” Frankel Hirsch said. “This collaboration was made with that balance in mind and reflects how weddings are today: a little less precious, more grounded in who a couple really is, while still feeling elevated, intentional, and beautiful. We see these pieces fitting into any part of a wedding, and like to think that this collection can act as a lasting keepsake that’s worn well beyond the celebration.”
