On opening night of Broadway’s most in-demand show of the season, “Othello,” the production’s leading women got ready together at the Civilian Hotel before heading over to the theater.
Molly Osborne and Kimber Elayne Sprawl star respectively as Desdemona, wife of Othello (Denzel Washington), and Emilia, wife of Iago (Jake Gyllenhaal). For opening night, Osborne wore a Mara Hoffman dress paired with kitten heels from Zara, as well as a pair of glasses gifted from a friend.
“I loved having a little piece of home with me to get ready,” she said. Given the backless cut of her dress, she opted for an updo with her hair.
Sprawl chose a gown by Bibhu Mohapatra, jewelry by V.Bellan and a Brandon Blackwood evening bag.
“This look was a love letter to NYC as all of the brands are based here, and it meant so much to be able to have them be a part of this milestone moment,” she said.
For glam, Sprawl had a dramatic, contoured eye look done by makeup artist Kaley Were.
“It made me feel all the more glamorous and I love that she prioritized using Black- and woman-owned brands like Danessa Myricks to capture this look,” Sprawl said.
The two posed for photos together in the halls of the hotel before meeting on the Starchild Rooftop of the Civilian Hotel for a moment with the other women in “Othello.”
“[We’re] truly grateful to be on this journey together,” Osborne and Sprawl said.
