Axon Public Safety Drone Integration Axon Week 2025

Axon Week 2025, held in Phoenix from April 22–25, convened nearly 2,000 public safety professionals to explore how integrated technology can save lives and build safer communities. The event—merging Axon Accelerate and TaserCon—centered on the theme of unified awareness, with keynote speakers emphasizing that technology, when paired with transparency and responsible innovation, serves as a powerful force multiplier for public safety.

Integration to Save Lives: The Fusus Platform

The keynote address highlighted that true innovation in public safety comes from unified awareness—bringing together people, data, and devices to empower first responders. At the heart of this vision is Fusus, Axon’s real-time operations platform described as a unified public safety ecosystem, or a “single pane of glass” to view a wide variety of data. Fusus aggregates live feeds from body cameras, fleet cameras, fixed security cameras, and community-contributed sources, giving law enforcement a comprehensive, real-time view of any incident. This interoperability enables agencies to respond faster, make better decisions, and ultimately protect more lives.

Expanding the Ecosystem: Brief Overview of Partner Integrations

Axon’s open ecosystem was a highlight at the conference, with a range of technology partners now integrated into the Fusus platform. These integrations strengthen the public safety network and expand situational awareness:

  • Ring: Enables law enforcement to request video from Ring users during investigations, with privacy controls ensuring data is only shared voluntarily.

  • Auror: Streamlines retail crime reporting and analysis, connecting frontline workers and police to tackle organized retail crime efficiently.

  • Citizen: (Currently in limited beta) Allows public safety to activate nearby Citizen app users for real-time alerts and live video, fostering two-way communication with the community.

  • Safariland: Provides holsters and gear integrated with Axon Signal technology for enhanced officer safety and evidence capture.

  • ubicquia: Installs smart cameras on existing streetlights, rapidly expanding city-wide camera coverage and integrating seamlessly with Fusus.

While these partnerships are vital, the conference’s focus was on drone and robotics integrations—key to the future of public safety operations.

Drones and Robotics: The 2025 “Megatrend”

Skydio: Autonomous Drones as First Responders

Skydio’s partnership with Axon is central to Axon’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) offering. Skydio’s X10 drone, equipped with built-in cellular connectivity and advanced AI vision, can be deployed from docks or directly from patrol cars, providing rapid aerial awareness even in challenging conditions. Officers receive real-time video, augmented reality overlays, and precise incident data, allowing them to respond smarter and safer. Skydio’s autonomy enables drones to navigate complex environments and get close to incidents, keeping officers out of harm’s way. CEO Adam Bry says the X10’s reliability and ease of use mean any patrol car can serve as a DFR launch point, expanding coverage without the need for fixed docks.

Sky-Hero: Tactical Drones and Ground Robots

Sky-Hero, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Axon following its acquisition in 2023, is a Brussels-based innovator specializing in tactical drones (UAVs) and ground robots (UGVs) designed specifically for law enforcement and military applications. Sky-Hero’s flagship product is the LOKI MkII, a compact, ruggedized drone purpose-built for indoor and close-quarters operations. The LOKI MkII features advanced stabilization for GPS-denied environments, an ultra low-light day/night camera, and a secure, independent communication network for total cybersecurity. This drone is designed to be hand-launched and can withstand impacts, making it ideal for high-risk scenarios such as hostage situations, building searches, and SWAT deployments. In addition to aerial solutions, Sky-Hero offers the SIGYN MkI—a pocket-sized ground robot capable of gathering real-time intelligence in confined or hazardous spaces. All Sky-Hero products are 100% designed, developed, and manufactured in Europe, are NDAA compliant, and have been deployed by elite tactical teams in over 30 countries. Their integration into Axon’s ecosystem allows agencies to leverage these tools , providing enhanced situational awareness and mission-critical intelligence during complex operations, Sky-Hero is now authorized for state and local police use in the U.S.

Dedrone: Counter-Drone Airspace Security

Axon’s 2024 acquisition of Dedrone brings advanced airspace security to the ecosystem. Dedrone’s solutions—including DedroneCity (zero-install urban security), Dedrone Portable, DedroneRapidResponse, and Dedrone Fixed Signal—detect, identify, and manage unauthorized drone activity – pinpointing where the operator is so that law enforcement can respond.

The launch of DedroneDefender 2, a handheld mitigation device, gives law enforcement the ability to neutralize rogue drones quickly and safely – breaking the connection between drone and operator. While mitigation is not currently allowed except in very limited situations for law enforcement in the US, legislation is moving forward to allow wider mitigation capabilities.

Dedrone’s integration with Fusus provides real-time airspace awareness, helping agencies focus resources and respond to aerial threats as part of a unified command platform.

SkySwap: Supporting Compliance Amid New Legislation

Axon’s SkySwap program is a proactive solution for agencies navigating a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. With federal laws—such as the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)—and a growing number of state bills restricting the purchase and use of Chinese-manufactured drones by government agencies, many public safety organizations face the risk of sudden fleet groundings and operational disruptions. SkySwap allows agencies to trade in non-compliant drones for credits toward NDAA-compliant, American-made technology, ensuring a smooth and cost-effective transition to secure drone solutions. The program also offers comprehensive support, including FAA compliance guidance, training, and seamless integration with Axon’s ecosystem—helping agencies stay operational and future-ready.

Responsible Innovation: Building Trust and Saving Lives

Throughout the Axon Week keynote, the message was clear: responsible innovation, transparency, and human oversight are essential. Axon’s approach uses AI and automation to amplify human decision-making, not replace it, ensuring technology extends safety for all while defending privacy and championing transparency. The integration of Skydio, Sky-Hero, Dedrone and other partners into the Fusus platform exemplifies this commitment—offering agencies powerful new tools to respond to emergencies, reduce risk, and build community trust.

As Drone as First Responder programs go mainstream and airspace security becomes increasingly critical, Axon’s unified, open ecosystem positions public safety agencies to respond faster, smarter, and with greater accountability.
