Another WNBA guard has suffered a season-ending injury

Bria Hartley has suffered a season-ending injury, the Connecticut Sun announced on Sunday morning. Hartley tore the meniscus in her right knee at practice this week, and will miss the remainder of the year.

Hartley has averaged 8.9 points, 3.1 assists, and 2 rebounds this season, and shot 36.7% from three. The 32-year-old guard was the Sun’s fourth-leading scorer this season, behind Tina Charles, Marina Mabrey, and Leila Lacan.

Bria Hartley becomes the latest WNBA guard to suffer a season-ending injury. Just this month, Indiana Fever guards Aari McDonald (broken foot), Sydney Colson (torn ACL), and Sophie Cunningham (torn MCL) sustained injuries that will keep them out of the remainder of the season.

Last week, Dallas Wings rookie JJ Quinerly suffered a sprained left ACL and was also ruled out for the year. Earlier this season, Wings guard Ty Harris suffered a season-ending knee injury, as did Golden State Valkyries All-Star Kayla Thornton. Last month, veteran Chicago Sky point guard Courtney Vandersloot tore her ACL, missing the rest of her season.

Perhaps the most high-profile injury of the season has been Caitlin Clark’s, who has dealt with both quad and groin injuries and appeared in just 13 games this year. Clark hasn’t formally been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but her status remains uncertain for the remainder of the year.

Hartley had a strong campaign in the WNBA after two seasons out of the league — now, like many guards around the league — her season has come to a premature end.
