Almost every WNBA team still needs to cut several players soon

As the cuts from WNBA rosters continue to roll out, it gets confusing to know which teams are done and which teams still need to make cuts.

Here is a team-by-team update on final rosters that we will be keeping updated over the course of today (Monday, May 12):

Indiana Fever

As of Monday, the Indiana Fever have 12 rostered players and are sitting below the salary cap. They could very well be done making roster decisions and have their 12 players secured ahead of the start of the regular season. The only way more changes are coming is if the team decides to dive into the free agency market in the wake of other teams’ cuts.

The Fever made most of their big decisions before camp. They ended up waiving Bree Hall, Jillian Alleyne and Yvonne Ejim from camp.

Las Vegas Aces

The Aces currently have 13 rostered players, meaning more cuts are on the way. They have a bit of wiggle room given that Cheyenne Parker-Tyus is on maternity leave, though. After waiving Harmoni Turner and Queen Egbo, a few more young players are on the chopping block. Vegas will likely make one more cut to bring the number of active players down to 11 total, plus Parker-Tyus.

The team announced Monday morning that they had waived rookie Deja Kelly.

Rookies Aaliyah Nye, Liz Kitley, and signee Crystal Bradford are sitting on that fringe. Tough decisions to make, given that all four players have impressed during training camp.

New York Liberty

The New York Liberty have 16 players in training camp as of Monday. That still includes Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who is injured and will likely miss most if not all of the season. There is speculation that the team will suspend her contract before the season starts in order to free up another roster spot.

But that would still leave at least three players that still need to be cut from the roster. It’s likely between Jaylyn Sherrod, Esmery Martinez, Leaonna Odom and Annika Soltau, with the edge being with Sherrod, who played with the team last season.

Minnesota Lynx

Minnesota is nearly done with its moves, sitting at 13 players on they roster. The Lynx recently waived Reagan Richardson, and it was announced that Dorka Juhasz will be sitting out this season. The Lynx will likely make two more moves to bring their final number down to 11.

It’s hard to predict where they will go with these two cuts. Players on the block likely include Diamond Miller, Grace Berger, Jessica Shepard, Alissa Pili, Anastasiia Olairi Kosu and Marieme Badiane.

Phoenix Mercury

The Mercury currently have 16 rostered players, meaning a wave of cuts is coming soon. They did not have any draft picks this year, so every player in camp that isn’t protected or returning is on a training camp contract. Many of whom are players who don’t have much WNBA experience.

Phoenix has been making some interesting moves this year, and based on their current roster decisions, there is no predicting who they will cut. They likely need to cut five more players total, four if they end up going with 12 total.

Dallas Wings

Dallas made waives recently, cutting Mai Yamamoto and Madison Scott from camp. That leaves them with 13 players in camp, and 1-2 cuts still to be made. Rookies JJ Quinerly and Azaiha James are still on the roster, along with camp signees Kaila Charles, Joyner Holmes and Luisa Geiselsöder.

If they go with 12 players on the roster, it would be nice to see both James and Quinerly get a shot.

Seattle Storm

The Storm have 14 players on the roster right now, including Katie Lou Samuelson (who was injured in camp). Samuelson will likely be out for the season, but that does not mean she is 100% cut yet. With 2-3 more cuts to make this week, the Storm’s younger players may be at risk.

Li Yueru, Zia Cooke, Brianna Fraser, Mackenzie Holmes and Serena Sundell are all in those fringe roster spots.

Golden State Valkyries

The Valkyries still have 17 players in training camp, though they will likely end up with 12 players total. That still means five players need to be cut at least. They have 2025 draftee Kaitlyn Chen, along with rookie Carla Leite on the roster, plus training camp signees Elissa Cunane, Mamignan Toure, Kyaea Linskens, Janelle Salaun and Chloe Bibby.

As an expansion team that has already been making unpredictable moves, it is hard to guess who will end up making this roster.

Connecticut Sun

The Sun recently signed another player (Bria Hartley), bringing their number of training camp players up to 18 total. At least six cuts will need to be made in the coming days to bring their total down to 12. They have four drafted players — Aneesha Morrow, Saniya Rivers, Rayah Marshall and Leila Lacan, as well as five training camp signees — Robin Parks, Madison Hayes, Kariata Diaby, Amy Okonkwo and Haley Peters. Now Hartley is in the mix, though her late signing may indicate they want to keep her.

Even if the Sun cut all five of their camp signees, they would still have to cut one drafted player as well.

Chicago Sky

With the recent cuts of Alex Wilson, Morgan Bertsch and Jessika Carter, the Chicago Sky are down to 12 players. With cap room to spare, it seems like this will be the final roster for the Sky. That means rookies Hailey Van Lith and Maddy Westbeld will both make the roster.

Washington Mystics

Washington has 16 players in training camp, including Georgia Amoore. After Amoore’s injury, it’s been a little unclear what the prognosis is, and she has yet to have surgery on her knee. Regardless, it’s unlikely they cut her anyway.

With 4-5 cuts to make, that leaves Khadijiah Cave, Emily Engstler, Ashten Pretchel, Lauren Jensen, Lucy Olson, Zaay Green and Sika Kone all potentially on the bubble.

Atlanta Dream

Atlanta recently waived Ashley Joens, but they still have 14 players on the roster, meaning 2-3 more cuts are to come. Maya Caldwell, Taylor Thierry, Te-Hina PaoPao, Shyanne Sellers and possibly even Haley Jones are at risk of getting cut.

The Dream picked Sellers up on waivers after she was cut from the Valkyries, and she made her playing debut with the team. It will be interesting to see if she ends up making the final roster after all the speculation on her condition over the past few weeks.

Los Angeles Sparks

The Sparks recently cut Liatu King, bringing their number down to 15 players in camp. Another team that seems likely to roll with 12 players this season, which means three more cuts are coming at least. The Sparks have three draftees left: Sarah Ashlee Barker, Sania Feagin and Shaneice Swain, along with training camp signees Maria Kliundikova, Aari MacDonald and Emma Cannon.

Final WNBA rosters are due on May 15th.
