Air Jordan 9 Boot AR4491-025 AR4491-700 Release Date

The Air Jordan 9 lends itself well to a transformation as a boot, first borrowing details from Nike’s military Special Field Boot back in 2017. A restock then came in 2022, and now another chance at wearing winterized Air Jordans will soon come.

The Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG in “Black/Gum” and “Wheat” is set to make its return during the forthcoming holiday season. More durable leather and suede are applied to the upper, which is also reinforced with a water-resistant treatment and a gusseted

tongue. Metal eyelet rings offer additional durability, and the ground contact is made with a thicker and lugged outsole with a fine tread pattern that’s matched by detailing on the otherwise minimalist upper.

Both colorways are prototypical for boots, with the “Wheat” edition channeling Timberland’s classic 6-Inch Boot with its monochromatic look and full-suede upper.

Having been released in 1993, the Air Jordan 9 was the first to hit the market while Michael Jordan was retired. Tinker Hatfield designed the sneaker with an international sensibility because of Jordan’s status as a global superstar. Words in 10 different languages appear in the original outsole pattern, which can still be seen beneath the lugs, and the circular Jumpman badge on the heel is modeled after Japan’s Rising Sun flag, which would later go on to inspire the sweeping lines of the Air Jordan 12 as well.

As Jordan was playing baseball during his retirement from the NBA, the Air Jordan 9 was also made into a cleat for him to wear on the field.

The Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG “Black/Gum” and “Wheat” will both release later this year during the holiday season through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but expect at least a slight increase from the $225 commanded three years ago.
