Aetrex Creates Tootsie AR for Fun Kids’ Shoe Shopping Experience

Aetrex has expanded on its leading foot scanning technology for its kids’ shoe fitting platform with the launch of its Tootsie augmented reality and Aetrex Kids Orthotics program.

The newest AR experience for the company builds upon its Tootsie foot scanner software program that launched last year, using the company’s friendly monster character, Tootsie, to help guide children throughout the foot scanning process to measure their feet.

The expansion will see kids stepping into the Tootsie world with Meta Quest 3 or 3S VR headsets. Tootsie comes to life in stores to create a memorable shopping journey by engaging in conversation and playful dance-offs.

Aetrex said these new innovations aim to elevate in-store engagement, increase in-person retail sales and make footwear shopping fun — all while promoting foot health. Beyond gaming, the Tootsie AR allows retailers to have other engagement points such as a digital photo booth to take pictures with Tootsie and branded giveaways with Tootsie-themed trading cards, digital wallpapers and more.

With the new AR launch, Aetrex is also introducing its new Kids Orthotics for $49.95; it’s designed specifically with children’s growing feet in mind. The orthotics provide superior cushioning, shock absorption, arch support and more. With an AeroCell base, the orthotics reduce stress on joints and have a soft top cover with the Tootsie character printed on top to be kid-friendly. The Aetrex Kids Orthotics is available to select DSW, Tradehome and Scheels locations.

The Tootsie 3D foot scanning program has grown to more than 1,300 retail stores around the globe, with Aetrex’s Albert Pro and Zoe Pro foot scanners — which retailers say they’re already seeing major impact.

Melissa Blandford, senior vice president of DSW, said that the company’s footwear shopping experience with Tootsie has created a memorable experience with people coming in-store to see Tootsie specifically.

“The kids’ footwear market reached $55.5 billion in 2024, yet most children are still wearing the wrong shoe size,” said Larry Schwartz, chief executive officer of Aetrex. “With the Tootsie Program, we ensure kids get proper sizing from their very first scan, helping to prevent future foot problems. At the same time, the Tootsie AR package transforms shopping into an engaging experience that kids look forward to, creating destinations where families want to return every six months or so as kids grow.”
