Our Prime Air Drone Vehicle Design and Test team within Flight Sciences is seeking an outstanding Aerodynamic Test & Evaluation Engineer who combines hands-on technical skills with test planning and coordination experience. This person will own our wind tunnel testing system and process and have opportunities to also own flight test instrumentation and support our acoustic testing systems. This person must be comfortable supporting a team of design engineers and scientists in a fast-paced, inter-disciplinary testing environment. We are looking for someone who is ready for diverse challenges; with a willingness to adapt to obstacles and an attention to detail. You will work hard, have fun, and of course, make history!
Key job responsibilities
– Plan, develop, and execute wind tunnel tests for full vehicle, propellers, and other test articles
– Fabricate and assemble wind tunnel model components and wind tunnel test fixtures and control systems
– Lead the integration and testing of new test articles and fixtures
– Build wiring harnesses for power electronics and test instrumentation
– Run diagnostics on power electronics and test instrumentation
– Complete calibrations with test instrumentation (load cells, pressure transducers, and other)
– Develop standard operating procedures and instructions for experiments
– Coordinate transportation of test equipment to and from testing locations
About the team
Our Flight Sciences Vehicle Design & Test organization includes teams that span the following disciplines: Aerodynamics, Performance, Stability & Control, Configuration & Spatial Integration, Loads, Structures, Mass Properties, Multi-disciplinary Optimization (MDO), Wind Tunnel Testing, Noise Testing, Flight Test Instrumentation, and Rapid Prototyping.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelors Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and 3+ years experience or equivalent
– Hands-on experience designing, building, or operating aerodynamic test systems
– Experience with wind tunnel testing and instrumentation
– Experience designing and building mechanical and electrical systems, test models, and test fixtures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– 3+ years experience running wind tunnel testing of air vehicles and/or propellers
– Experience with test system uncertainty quantification, calibration, and corrections
– Experience assembling and modifying mechanical structures and fixtures
– Familiarity working with and debugging high power electrical systems
– Ability to read engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, and operating manuals
– Familiarity with modern CAD software (CATIA/3DX)
– Experience developing or utilizing data acquisition software systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
