Abu Dhabi Airports Picks BETA for eVTOL Charge Network

Abu Dhabi Airports has selected U.S.-based BETA Technologies to equip the Emirates’ first network of eVTOL charging infrastructure, advancing Emirati air mobility with proven, certified ground support at scale. BETA’s Charge Cube and Battery Thermal Management System will initially be installed at Al Bateen Executive Airport, with expansion to Zayed International Airport as Abu Dhabi prepares to launch its regional air taxi routes in 2026.

Advanced Charging to Power Vertiport Network

The Charge Cube is a permanent, high-power electric aircraft charger capable of delivering up to 320 kW and charging compatible eVTOL aircraft, such as the ALIA models, in under one hour. The unit features a 50-foot cable for flexible ramp placement, CCS protocol for multimodal and interoperable charging, and UL-certification for international safety and compliance. Designed to operate under a wide range of conditions, the companion Battery Thermal Management System optimizes battery temperature to maximize performance and turnaround.

As the Emirates’ designated leader for AAM infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Airports will roll out up to 14 public vertiports at key locations. BETA’s systems will enable the first critical steps of this vision—seamless electric aircraft charging at high-traffic airports—supported by on-site technical consulting, maintenance, and crew training from BETA. Zayed International Airport, the UAE’s newly renamed flagship and the region’s largest airport by passenger numbers, will soon follow Al Bateen as a launch site for eVTOL connectivity.

Future Vision

“BETA is excited to continue the international deployment of our charging solutions. We believe this commitment to permanent ground infrastructure shows the strength and momentum of our industry,” said Chad Nichols, Charge Operations Lead at BETA Technologies. “Ours is the world’s first and only certified electric aviation charging and thermal management solution, and we are excited to work with Abu Dhabi Airports to deploy it throughout the region to support electric flights.”

Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO at Abu Dhabi Airports, added: “Our collaboration with BETA ensures the robust infrastructure needed to make Abu Dhabi’s air taxi network a commercial reality, safe, sustainable, and built for the future.”

BETA’s charge network already includes over 50 sites in the U.S. and Canada. Its Charge Cube is interoperable with electric aircraft, ground vehicles, and is being adopted by major OEMs worldwide.
