Aaron Rodgers is rumored to be making a pathetic pitch to one NFL team

There’s no doubt the Los Angeles Rams are at a crossroads. The team is four years removed from their Super Bowl win, but even Sean McVay’s brilliance can only carry the current roster so far. It’s for this reason the team is planning to trade Cooper Kupp, and entertaining offers for Matthew Stafford. It’s time for a reset in LA, not a rebuild — and that means any discussion about how to maximize their assets is smart, instead of forcing things while watching aging players fade into obscurity.

On the topic of aging players fading into obscurity [Aaron Rodgers bursts through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man, except he’s an anthropomorphic jug of ayahuasca]. Aaron Rodgers is already reportedly pulling strings to try and land a gig with the Rams, should Stafford be traded.

It takes a remarkable level of cognitive dissonance to see the Rams situation and think Aaron Rodgers is the answer. Essentially the suggestion here is that Los Angeles should part ways with Stafford and Kupp, and replace them with Rodgers and Adams. A bold move to make the Rams simultaneously older, and worse at two key positions — while also inheriting a headache. From now on it’ll be know as the “Aaron Rodgers Plan,” or “AARP” for short.

The entire purpose of trading Stafford would be to get younger at quarterback while picking up draft assets. There’s no doubt intrigue in someone like Sam Darnold, who operated so well inside the Vikings offense, which is essentially a facsimile of the Rams scheme. Alternately the Rams could basically punt on the season, taking a step back in 2025 in order to make a splash in the 2026 NFL Draft and find their franchise QB of the future.

The AARP tries to kick that can down the road by adding a worse quarterback. If you saw the Jets play last season you know Rodgers’ arm is basically cooked at this point, and he can’t run the vertical passing the Rams and known for. Not only is he a bad fit, but he’s about the worst fit you could possibly find. Then you sprinkle in Davante Adams, who is good — but would struggle being the No. 2 receiver behind Puka Nacua and there’s a problem. Then you sprinkle in that Rodgers has a rapport with Adams that he doesn’t with Nacua, along with a prevalence for over-targeting guys he likes best — well, it’s creating a powderkeg.

It’s just astonishingly stupid. If the Rams entertained this plan for one second they would deserve all the ridicule they get.
