Kobe Bryant’s penultimate on-court Nike sneaker is the next Kobe model in line to receive a modernized Protro upgrade.
Nike unveiled Tuesday the Kobe 10 Protro, a refreshed version of Bryant’s second-to-last signature shoe, which adds more than a decade’s worth of new tech and engineering capabilities to an already advanced setup. And while the original 2015 iteration of the Kobe 10 was already advanced for its time, the updated 2026 Protro variation builds on that foundation with the implementation of today’s tech.
Major changes are seen in the cushioning, which replaces the original version’s combination of Lunarlon foam and heel Air Zoom cushioning with Nike’s proprietary Cushlon 3.0 foam and a full-length Zoom Strobel. According to Nike, these changes allow for improved responsiveness and energy return along with a most consistent feel across the entire foot.
Nike designers even got scientific with the sneaker’s updates, calling on the company’s Nike Sports Research Lab to offer movement data in order to reengineer the Kobe 10’s outsole without compromising the beloved traction capabilities of the original. A key feature of the original, its carbon fiber forefoot wing for lateral stability, remains the same.

The Kobe 10’s upper has also been refreshed with a redesigned engineered mesh which Nike says offers better breathability and flexibility. The forefoot has been widened for a less restrictive feel while new reinforcements add support in the areas it’s most needed.
Protro, Bryant’s own concept of adding performance upgrades to his retro footwear, was introduced to the line in 2018. “We’re always looking to build on things that we’ve done in the past and try to improve them. Protro is about evolution and improving things that were,” Bryant said in ’18 during the debut of the Kobe 1 Protro.
Introduced in 2023, the Nike Kobe Halo line was conceptualized in part with Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, and honors the late basketball legend’s birthday on Aug. 23. To date, the triple-white tribute colorway has been applied to the Kobe 8 Protro, Kobe 9 Protro and the Kobe 3 Protro.
The Nike Kobe 10 Protro Halo will be released on Aug. 23 from Nike’s Snkrs app and select retailers for $200. The White/White sneaker’s style code is IO3415-100. And after the Halo colorway, more Kobe 10 Protro engineered mesh styles will be released throughout ’26 followed by the introduction of Flyknit versions paired with ZoomX foam in 2027.
