Zoey Deutch Embraces Thong Sandal Trend

Zoey Deutch arrived at the San Francisco fan screening for Netflix’s “Voicemails for Isabelle” on Friday in a pair of black thong sandals built around a wrapped arch design, where the strap curves around the foot’s midsection for a more secure, grounded feel than a standard flip-flop silhouette. A thick upper strap sat across the toes, anchoring the sandal without adding bulk.

The style is a recurring choice for Deutch, who has reached for variations of the thong sandal style this summer. That repetition tracks with where red carpet footwear has been heading. The rise of the thong sandal became a defined conversation in fashion circles over the past year, gaining momentum after moments like Jonathan Bailey’s black flip-flops from The Row at a 2025 photo call, which helped The Row’s Dune sandal place as the top product on a quarterly fashion index. Designers have followed suit, with Gwyneth Paltrow recently wearing Proenza Schouler’s asymmetric thong sandal in black nappa leather at an awards-season event, and Hailey Bieber bringing a ’90s-era exposed thong silhouette back into rotation with strappy heeled versions.

Minimalist thong sandals have been positioned as one of the season’s bigger comeback trends for summer 2026, pitched as a pared-down alternative to more ornamented sandal styles. Deutch’s pair fits squarely into that minimalist lane with no embellishment, no hardware, just a clean strap structure.

Deutch’s completed her look with a sleeveless white minidress striped in bold black zebra print, with a deep V-neckline and a fitted silhouette that stopped well above the knee.

“Voicemails for Isabelle,” now available on Netflix, follows Jill (Zoey Deutch), a San Francisco chef who copes with her sister’s death by leaving voicemails on her old number, unaware they now reach Wes (Nick Robinson), a real estate agent who falls for her.
