Rivage’s Swim Dress is the Perfect Beach to Bar Design

In theory, the perfect vacation outfit would be something that requires no effort or thought and simply looks flawless regardless of the situation. Said outfit would go from a dip in the ocean, where it’d go from soaking wet to magically drying in time for a glass of wine and a plate of deep-fried snacks at the nearest seaside bar. That sounds like a fantasy garment but for Rivage, a Stockholm-based brand, it’s become reality with the creation of their swim dress. Founded by a trio of women, Nadja Forsberg, Michelle Malmström and Jessica Johansson, the Scandinavian line has been quietly making stylish vacation-ready pieces since 2023 that straddles the line between swimwear and ready-to-wear.

Like all good ideas, it came to the women when they were relaxed and on vacation. “While in the south of France, we had the desire for something more freeing than conventional swimwear,” Forsberg explained.

The trio compared their experiences shopping for cover-ups and bathing suits, realizing that they wanted something that didn’t quite exist yet. The goal? A piece that felt equally at home in the water as it does for daily life. It should be easy to pack, lightweight and require no steaming. And so, they landed on their swim dress, an A-line mini silhouette made from stretch-jersey featuring a swimsuit lining and available in a one-shoulder, spaghetti strap or wide strap options.

“As the [piece] naturally changes between wet and dry states, both fabric type and weight are carefully considered to ensure a consistently lightweight feel throughout wear,” Forsberg said.

The reception was immediately positive, with the likes of Net-a-porter stocking the line. As for the customers gravitating to the silhouette? Forsberg has said that the feedback has shown that a piece designed by women for women has resonated.

“Having to conform to conventional swimwear for so long made all the efforts of bringing cover-ups, changing clothes on the beach, feeling exposed, etc., feel like an established and obvious part of our vacation experiences. It doesn’t have to be that way,” said Forsberg, adding that she’s been told how stylish, flattering and above all easy, her designs are to wear.

When it comes to styling tips, Rivage’s swim dress is versatile to be dressed up or down. “I wear it to breakfast in the mornings with a pair of sandals and sunglasses before the beach or pool. Pairing it with some jewelry, a head scarf and a beach tote will make the garment carry you through a day on a boat, lunch on the beach, the beach club or even a dinner event,” she said. And for those who prefer something a little skimpier? Meet the swim dress co-ord, a cheeky take on the look featuring a bikini top and matching skirt, lined for swimming. Consider your summer vacation looks sorted.
