The longtime attorney and human rights advocate turned to the late Lee Alexander McQueen‘s fall 2007 collection for her red carpet attire. The dress was crafted with allover shimmering gold sequins and featured an Art Deco-style design of sinuous lines and sharp angles for a contemporary appeal along with its timeless silhouette.

The maxidress included a V-shaped neckline with short, capped sleeves, a column silhouette and hem that nearly grazed the red carpet — were it not for Clooney’s coordinated metallic gold pointed-toe pumps.

Clooney’s fall 2007 collection debuted as part of Paris Fashion Week back in March 2007. While the collection was not explicitly an homage to Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor, several of the aesthetic choices for the models and designs harkened back to the two-time Oscar-winning actress’ career.

The gilded gold dress Clooney wore for Monday’s event in London evoked Taylor’s 1963 film “Cleopatra.” From the dress’ ornate gold design to the model’s makeup and hairstyling, the entire look was reminiscent of costumes worn by the actress.

The fall 2007 ready-to-wear curation was titled “In Memory of Elizabeth Howe, Salem, 1692” and included several visual motifs and references to the Salem Witch trials.

Shortly after McQueen’s death in 2010, designer Sarah Burton assumed the role of creative director. She departed the British luxury fashion house in 2023 and was appointed to the same role with Givenchy in 2024.

Monday’s celebrations at London’s Royal Albert Hall commemorates the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust, a charity founded by King Charles III in 1976. The organization serves young people ages 11 to 30 in the U.K. and across the globe to help build confidence and gain access to training in an effort to find employment.
