Katie Holmes reached for Lanvin to walk down Carnegie Hall’s 50th Anniversary of the Concert of the Century red carpet at Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Tuesday in New York City. She paired a fall 2026 dress with some crystal-embellished mules, also from the designer.

Holmes, who is often spotted in a loafer or classic ballerina flat, went for a more unique and exciting shoe option for the event. She stepped out in an embellished version of the Lanvin the Midnight Step mule. The mule is made up of several eye-grabbing components, that make it stand out from a traditional mule and separates its from the current minimalist mule trend.
The Midnight Step is instead a more contemporary design with a daring neckline and an ultrasharp pointed toe, complete with a curved heel that is both stable and lightweight and measures nearly 4 inches. The modern sculpted heel flares out toward the bottom, and it is the shoe’s most distinctive feature.

The vamp extends all the way to the front of the shoe, leaving a slight opening for a peep-toe-like effect, making a pop of the “Dawson’s Creek” alum’s red pedicure visible. The shoe features a plunging neckline, and the strap is embellished with a series of rectangular-shaped crystals and shimmering details. The blue padded insole is hot-stamped with the house’s signature in gold. The mules are available in black patent leather and a rich red velvet shade for $1,090.
Lanvin has featured a variety of mule styles as part of its most recent collection. From a mesh pair to more leather pairs and crystal-adorned designs, the fashion house has released plenty of mule options to coincide with the ongoing backless shoe trend.

Holmes paired her mules with a black velvet midi dress with fringe detailing for the Carnegie Hall event. The dress made its debut as part of the Lanvin fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection shown at Paris Fashion Week in March. It featured a high round neck design that was decorated by a draped bow on one shoulder. The dress featured a drop waist and a sleeveless silhouette.

The event celebrated the original Concert of the Century, which took place on May 18, 1976, and featured performances by members of the New York Philharmonic led by Leonard Bernstein, joined by baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, pianist Vladimir Horowitz, violinists Yehudi Menuhin and Isaac Stern, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and the Oratorio Society of New York. The benefit concert was spearheaded by Stern and was recorded and released by Sony Classical, raising $1.2 million to establish the first endowment fund for Carnegie Hall, securing the institution’s financial future.
