Each day it seems like another automaker announces the cancellation of an existing EV or the decision to roll back its commitment to releasing a new electric car. Honda announced its decision to end its project Afeela EV project, Volvo stopped importing its maligned EX30 subcompact electric crossover, and even Hyundai canceled plans to import the facelifted excellent Ioniq 6, but we wanted to know which EV the Jalopnik audience believes should be next on the proverbial chopping block.
I said the struggling Tesla Cybertruck should be the next EV to get the axe. Its sales numbers are a small, sad fraction of what Tesla’s cringey and bigoted CEO Elon Musk claimed they would be, it’s not very good at being an actual pickup truck, and one Cybertruck’s Autopilot recently failed spectacularly at being an automated pilot and crashed head-on into a concrete barrier causing a Houston, Texas woman a list of injuries. Plus, selfishly, I’m sick of seeing these drivable dumpsters littering the roads of Los Angeles, so I think it should be canceled. Enough about me though, these are a few of the EVs that the audience thinks should be canceled next.
The GMC Hummer EV
Hummer EV. In a millisecond. I do not know who at GM did the hardest drugs known to man, and somehow survived, and said that their first EV not named the Bolt that came after the Bolt needed to be an obese, overpriced, grossly overdone 9,000+ pound SUV that can do one party trick that might be cool once to show drunk friends and then never used again. I’m guessing the guy got promoted because it still exists. And the market seems to be speaking loudly that buyers don’t want it. I see Rivians and a few Lucids daily, but over the last two years, I’ve seen at the most, 4 or 5 Hummers, even in the wealthier parts of town.
