Salomon ACS Pro Shell: Sneaker Sandal Release Date

New Balance isn’t the only brand that’s converted one of its popular sneakers into a breezy, sandal-like shoe for the summer, as Salomon has just introduced a similar spin on its fan-favorite ACS Pro model.

Fittingly dubbed the Salomon ACS Pro Shell, the soon-to-be-released sneaker maintains the overall look and feel of the traditional ACS Pro, but with a new build that makes the typically rugged model better suited for summer weather. Salomon says the ACS Pro Shell’s design takes notes from the protective yet lightweight structure of an ocean shell. 

The entire upper of the shoe has been reworked from inside out, combining an open build with wide-gauge mesh and window cutouts for enhanced ventilation. And yet, with its traditional TPU caging, the ACS Pro Shell remains structured enough to support the foot similarly to how a standard sneaker would. 

Salomon further elaborates on the new design by saying it’s made for “beating the heat in hot, humid environments” by being airy, breezy and secure at the same time. 

The ACS Pro Advanced was introduced in late 2021 as an update to Salomon’s 2005 GCS Pro model. The ACS Pro Advanced featured a new Agile Chassis System midsole but otherwise retained the standout design cues of the ’05 original. Today, Salomon markets the shoe under the simplified name ACS Pro. 

The model has received various reworks over the years including Gore-Tex variations and collaborations with the likes of Dover Street Market, Jah Jah, Kar L’Art de L’Automobile and Maison Margiela MM6, but this is the first time the shoe has been modified with sandal-like properties.

The Salomon ACS Pro Shell is priced at $180 and will be released Wednesday from salomon.com, Salomon stores and select retail partners. The sneaker’s debut styles include Black/Black/Black and Rainy Day/Black/Castlerock.
