Kate Hudson Revives Hairstyle 25 Years After Her First Oscars Luncheon

Twenty-five years after receiving her first Oscar nomination, Kate Hudson returned to the 98th annual Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon, sporting the same hairstyle from two decades prior.

Hudson stepped out for the star-studded affair at The Beverly Hilton on Tuesday, with her dirty blond hair styled in a side part. The look was an overt nod to the hairdo she wore to the 2001 Oscars Nominees Luncheon, when she was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in “Almost Famous.” This year, she’s up for Best Actress for her portrayal of Claire Sardina in “Song Sung Blue.”

Unlike her 2001 straight-haired aesthetic, Hudson boasted soft, smooth waves throughout. Her front pieces were similarly brushed away from her forehead and secured in place by a clip; the rest was tucked behind her opposite ear. The star-turned-singer tapped artist Marcus Francis to help evolve the look to fit her modern-day style. While Francis was the architect behind her recent appearance at the Directors Guild Awards, Hudson partnered with Peter Gray on her for the Golden Globes in January.

One of the first celebrity stylists to touch Hudson’s hair was the legendary David Babaii. Together, Babaii and Hudson shot to stardom, collaborating on major editorials, red carpets and fashion campaigns. The late stylist would often credit Hudson as his “muse,” though he also managed client relationships with Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Hudson’s makeup on Tuesday was a far cry from the smoky shadow and pale complexion she sported 25 years ago. With the help of Tonya Brewer, the “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days” lead touted glass skin bronzed eyes. Her lips were flushed with a rose-taupe hue, while her cheekbones were dressed in gold highlighter. Hudson’s eyebrows were also noticeably thicker, not quite soap brows but close.

Elsewhere at the luncheon, Hudson’s fellow Best Actress nominees Rose Byrne, Emma Stone and Jessie Buckley brought bobs of all styles and lengths to the red carpet, while Best Supporting Actress nominee Teyana Taylor stuck to her signature pin curl pixie cut.

The 98th annual Oscars will take place on March 15 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
