Supergoop Taps Lauren Weinberg as CMO

Supergoop’s new chief executive officer Melis del Rey has made her first C-suite appointment, naming Lauren Weinberg as chief marketing officer, effective Monday.

In her new role, Weinberg will oversee brand, social and growth marketing, product innovation, creative, consumer insights, strategic partnerships and communications.

Most recently, Weinberg was chief marketing officer at Peloton, where she led global brand and growth initiatives. Prior to that, she was chief marketing and communications officer at Square, helping to scale the business internationally, launch its first global brand campaign and support acquisitions, including Weebly and Afterpay.

Earlier in her career, Weinberg held senior leadership roles at Yahoo, MTV, AOL, Nielsen and comScore.

“Lauren is a world-class marketing leader with a rare ability to balance creativity, performance and operational rigor,” said del Rey. “As Supergoop continues to grow and introduce millions of new consumers to SPF as a daily ritual, Lauren’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our brand, deepening consumer connection, and fueling long-term demand.”

In an interview with WWD, Weinberg said: “I’ve been a loyal Supergoop user for many years so I’m very excited to be getting into the space. I’ve moved from media to fintech to fitness, and I have always enjoyed diving into new industries and bringing a fresh perspective where I go.

“There’s so much opportunity for this brand to grow and scale and for us to show up in culturally relevant moments through partnerships, and so I just can’t wait to get in there and continue on the great work that’s already being done,” she said. “For example, the partnership with Alterra Mountain company is a really great one, and I think there’s so many more things in that vein that we can do with Supergoop.”

Supergoop was founded in 2005 by Holly Thaggard, who built the company into one of the first and most successful high-end SPF companies in beauty. Hero products include Unseen Sunscreen, Glow Screen and Play Everyday Lotion.

In 2021 Blackstone acquired a majority stake in Supergoop. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
