Katie Holmes showed off her love of ballet flats yet again while out and about in Los Angeles on Sunday, but embraced an alternative version of the beloved footwear style with a notably high-cut iteration.

Holmes stepped out in black leather flats, which fully embodied the low-profile footwear trend that took over the fashion world in 2025. Eschewing any extra volume, the shoes hugged her feet, almost like a slim loafer. The style toed the line between ballet flat and loafer, occupying a hybrid space with a high-cut, rounded vamp — the extra coverage nodded to a loafer, but the curved outline more so resembled a ballet flat. The low-to-the-ground shoe was overall a showcase of streamlined simplicity with its lack of embellishment and glove-like fit. A rounded toe and slim block heel completed the silhouette, while a line indenting the vamp subtly bifurcated the upper.
For Holmes, the unique yet understated footwear accompanied black straight-leg trousers and a colorful diamond-patterned sweater from Boden, which she styled with a French tuck.

Holmes is a devotee of ballet flats, be it an alternative style or a classic take on the feminine, dance-inspired footwear. Over the summer, for example, she wore a black-on-black, bow-adorned cap-toe style from Chanel while filming “Happy Hour.”
When it comes to to other shoe silhouettes, she might put on a versatile boot, like kitten heel black suede boots from Veronica Beard or glossy brown loafers from Franco Sarto.
