All About Hollywood’s Hottest New Hair Trend: The ‘Mini Mullet’

Men’s hair is heating up with the rise of the “mini mullet.”

Global search for the style has jumped 84 percent year-over-year, according to new data by Fresha, alongside “What is a mini mullet?” inquiries, up 200 percent year-over-year. The recent interest follows the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, where a handful of Hollywood stars — such as Jacob Elordi, Glen Powell and Connor Storrie — were seen modeling the cut on the carpet.

Storrie, specifically, has generated significant interest in his wavy mullet as one of the two main heartthrobs in HBO Max’s new adaptation of Rachel Reid’s hockey smut series, “Heated Rivalry.” Hairdresser and men’s groomer Candice Birns, who’s collaborated with Storrie on his journey to stardom, described the style to WWD as “soft or less aggressive” — a modest “Euro mullet,” if you will.

Compared to the traditional mullet (picture young David Beckham and every other U.K. football player), the mini mullet’s “disconnection is less severe between the top sides in the back,” said Birns. “It creates a softer version of the mullet versus severely disconnected mullets where you’ll see a lot of length in the back, shorter sides and shorter top,” she continuned. “The difference of the mullet being business in the front and party in the back, it still can be connected.”

The form and disconnection, Birns said, can be adjusted. “The beauty of the mullet is that you can custom fit to what suits you. Not everyone’s head of hair is alike so it’s customizing it to fit each individual and what’s going to be the most flattering,” she added.

When it comes to Storrie’s cut and texture level, Birns focuses on finding an edge that complements his fashion and makes him stand out from the other mini mullet models. The hair architect uses a combination of creams, oils, hydrating shampoos and conditioners to scrunch and set his viral curls.

As for Jacob Elordi’s mini mullet, men’s groomer Amy Komorowski previously told WWD his look was “all about timeless, undone energy” at the Golden Globes. “The waves are soft and lived-in, with a subtle sheen that gives the texture a modern polish without losing that rebellious spirit,” Komorowski added.

Unlike both Storrie and Elordi, Glen Powell’s debut mullet, styled by Tim Dueñas, was straight. On Instagram, Dueñas said he wanted to emulate 1990s red carpet beauty but with a contemporary spin. To do so, he prepped Powell’s hair with strong hold hair gel before going in with a soft diffuser. He then distributed shiny hair wax evenly throughout before finishing with modeling wax to lock everything in.

“To make the look feel modern make sure to use your fingers like you are shampooing and dishevel the hair at the roots, creating movement and volume. But, still retaining the overall shape,” he wrote online.

While Powell’s mullet certainly caused quite the stir online, Birns believes Storrie’s curly version will top 2026 trends. “I’ve been on a mission to bring these back since Keith Richards circa 1967,” said Birns of the curly mini mullet. “They’re gonna be everywhere.”
