Watch out: It’s the “Big Soap.”
“Stranger Things” star Brett Gelman and Dr. Squatch are teaming up against the toxic elements lurking in the corners of men’s showers in a new, vintage-style campaign, featuring a limited-edition collection of soaps and deodorants inspired by the fan-favorite show and Gelman’s baroque character, Murray Bauman. The themed drop comes just one week after the highly anticipated premiere of Season Five, part one, on Netflix, which begins with a hunt for the monster, Vecna, in The Upside Down. The second installment of “Stranger Things” season five will release on Christmas Day.

Nortorious for being a conspiracy theorist, Bauman uses his investigative skills to uncover and expose the artificial ingredients, harsh chemicals and imposter products in the Dr. Squatch video series. “If there’s one thing Murray Bauman knows, it’s that there’s always a cover-up, and it turns out that ‘Big Soap’ has been running one in our showers for years,” said Brett Gelman in the official press release. “Thankfully, Dr. Squatch helped me blow the case wide open…and I’ve never smelled better doing investigative work.”

The four-item collection sees Bauman reimagined in gritty, musk scents, including “Descend Into the Upside Down With Vecna’s Curse” and “Lather up for a late-night Hawkins mission with Squawk Signal,” both of which fuse pumice and coconut oil. The “Descend in the Upside Down” aroma touts notes of ground vanilla vine, crisp juniper and blood orange, while “Lather up for late-night” boasts icy lavender and fizzy cherry soda. “Step into the industrial chill of Hawkins Laboratory With Experiment No. 11” blends antioxidant-rich rainbow plant extract for a cooling, yet sharp scent, and “Unleash the Hellfire Club’s fiery spirit with Hellfire & Beyond” includes drops of dragon’s blood extract to leave the wearer with the scent of “dungeons and Demogorgons.”
For $32, show fans and interested consumers can purchase the “Stranger Things” four-pack. Otherwise, each bar of soap will be available for $6 in Target stores nationwide and online at drsquatch.com. The deodorants will be available exclusively to in-store and online Target shoppers for $14 each.

“The Murray Bauman character is chaotic with a level of truth-seeking humor, which was the perfect way to dramatize the message we’ve been championing for years,” John Ludeke, senior vice president of global marketing at Dr. Squatch, said in the official press release. “Brett brought the same skepticism and curiosity we want guys to bring to their routines and the ingredients they’re putting on their skin. It’s a great reminder that what you use to get clean should actually be clean.”
Dr. Squatch, founded in 2013, was recently acquired by Unilever — a strategic move on the parent company’s part to further the expansion of its personal care division. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
