Hailey Bieber’s Favorite Facial Injections Explained by Experts

From “strawberry glaze” summer 2022 makeup tutorials to nightly skin care videos teasing unreleased Rhode items, Hailey Bieber has slowly but surely revealed her secrets to glass skin.

Most of these reveals, however, have been product-based, a lineup of peptide glazing serums and milks, barrier-restoring moisturizers and pink PDRN collagen masks courtesy of Medicube — until now.

While guest-starring on the “In Your Dreams” podcast on Friday, host Owen Thiele dug deeper, encouraging the 28-year-old founder to unearth new elements of her beauty routine, which led her to candidly share her reluctance to Botox and the injectables she gets in lieu of it: PRP and PRF.

PRP, otherwise known as platelet-rich plasma, and PRF, platelet-rich fibrin, are medical treatments that utilize a client’s blood to “promote wound and tissue repair in the body, specific to the area and concern being treated,” according to Dr. Jason Diamond, a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon. In other words, PRP and PRF leverage the power of one’s own body properties to rejuvenate without filler or diluted botulinum toxin found in Botox.

Though both treatments involve drawing blood, the processes differ. PRP, specifically, processes a small amount of blood to “concentrate the platelets via centrifugation” before injecting the “concentrated, weightless plasma into the treatment area,” Diamond told WWD. This plasma can also be applied topically after laser and microneedling, added Leah Corredora, a JECT board-certified physician assistant.

PRF, on the other hand, uses a slower centrifugation process to achieve a gel-like substance. “PRF focuses on the natural fibrin matrix that forms as the blood is processed and contains platelets, white blood cells, and a fibrin matrix providing a more comprehensive healing response in certain situations,” Diamond explained. The absorption isn’t as fast as PRP per se, but it “provides a sustained release of growth factors,” Diamond continued, which can translate to more “robust volume and skin enhancement.”

To that end, PRP and PRF can help improve skin tone, texture, crepiness and elasticity. In Diamond’s “Diamond InstaFacial,” which includes both treatments, PRF is injected into concentrated areas with fine lines, tear troughs, acnes scars and wrinkles. “For hair and scalp, we inject and microneedle for scalp health improvement by increasing blood flow and nutrient delivery, and denser, thicker hair for those who are thinning or receding, or have experienced significant hair loss,” Diamond noted.

The majority of interested clients are eligible candidates for PRP and PRF; however, those with blood disorders, autoimmune conditions, infections or taking blood-thinning medication should consult with their aesthetic provider first.

“Side effects of PRP and PRF are minimal and typically limited to mild swelling for one to two days and bruising, which can be easily covered with makeup. Since the treatments use your own blood, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low,” Corredora said.
