Triennale Milano Unveils Plans for Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics

MILAN — The countdown is on for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and the Triennale Milano museum will serve as a beating heart for the event, which will kick off Feb. 6.

Situated in the center of Milan, the museum will host a comprehensive program, culminating in an exhibit curated by German Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic and Marco Sammicheli, director of the Italian design museum Museo del Design Italiano of Triennale Milano.

The cultural institution will serve as the official headquarters for the Italian Olympic and Paralympic teams and media hub during the Winter Games. It will also house the Olympics Torch and the Paralympic Torch until March 15.

“Grasping the bond between culture and sport means narrating a piece of our history, which has on several occasions revealed a very strong relationship between education and development, entertainment, sports activities, growth and innovation, all typical elements of the Italian DNA,” said Triennale Milano president Stefano Boeri in a statement. Triennale Milano’s institutional partners are professional services multinational Deloitte and Fondazione Deloitte, Italian coffee manufacturer Lavazza Group and Salone del Mobile.Milano.

Grcic, who has forged several fashion collaborations with brands like Hugo Boss and clothing brand Aeance, will unveil “White Out. The Future of Winter Sport” on Jan. 28. The exhibit will run until March 29.

“It is an exhibition that investigates the relationship between winter sports and design, with particular reference to the inevitable future challenges posed by the climate change already in process and by the innovations in technological progress,” organizers said.

Opening Feb. 4, Triennale Milano will unveil its permanent collection, offering new perspectives on Italian design from the 1930s to 2000. In tandem, 10 new Olympic and Paralympic posters commissioned from leading Italian artists will also be on display through March 15.

Elsewhere, the flag-raising ceremony and lighting of the Olympic cauldron on Feb. 6 will take place in Milan at Arco della Pace and in the winter resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo on the central Dibona Square. The games will close on Feb. 22.

The organizer of the games, Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, revealed during a press conference held at the San Siro Stadium on Oct. 16 that the opening ceremony will feature a tribute to the late designer and entrepreneur Giorgio Armani.
