Update: Emeka Egbuka has been officially ruled out of the rest of Sunday’s matchup against the 49ers..
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has exited their Week 6 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury and is doubtful to return. The rookie wideout caught two of four targets for 24 yards in the first half of Sunday’s contest and did not appear on the field with the offense during their first drive of the third quarter.
The first-round rookie out of Ohio State has exploded through the first five games of his NFL career and is considered by many as the early leader for Offensive Rookie of the Year. He hauled in 25 targets for 445 yards and five touchdowns, establishing a strong rapport with Baker Mayfield in the dynamic Tampa Bay offense.
Egbuka potentially missing any amount of time could be devastating for a Bucs offense that has already been decimated by injuries this season. Veteran Mike Evans has been sidelined for three weeks with his own hamstring injury while Chris Godwin was sidelined for Sunday’s game against San Francisco with a fibula injury. Starting running back Bucky Irving has also missed multiple games with foot and shoulder injuries, so the injuries are taking their toll on the NFC contender.
Note: This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available regarding Egbuka’s status.
