Fred Warner suffers scary injury, and the 49ers can’t catch a break

The San Francisco 49ers have been stung by the injury bug for the second year in a row, and it’s only getting worse.

49ers superstar linebacker Fred Warner suffered a serious ankle injury in the first quarter of the team’s Week 6 game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Warner’s leg was rolled up on as the defense brought down Tampa Bay’s running back Rachaad White. You can watch the play here.

Warner suffered a dislocated ankle, according to The Athletic. He was ruled out for the game. He had an air cast placed on his leg, and he was carted off the field. The speculation is that Warner could have dislocated or fractured his ankle. This sure feels like a season-ending injury before anything is confirmed right now.

Warner’s injury means the two best players on the 49ers’ defense could be out for the season. Nick Bosa also tore his ACL in Sept., and will be out for the season. San Francisco is also missing Brock Purdy with a toe injury, Ricky Pearsall with a knee injury, and George Kittle with a hamstring injury right now.

Despite all those injuries, San Francisco is currently sitting in first place in the NFC West at 4-1 overall as they take on the Bucs on Sunday.
