Ratboys shared their last album, the Chris Walla-produced The Window, in 2023. Now, they’re back with a new song and a new label home. Also co-produced with Walla, “Light Night Mountains All That” is the Chicago rock band’s debut single for New West Records. Ratboys drummer Marcus Nuccio directed the accompanying music video. Watch it below.
“My original idea was to write an ultra-high energy folk song, in the style of The Dodos’ Visiter, with somewhat spooky, mysterious, and pastoral lyrics—like what Chris Otepka of The Heligoats might conjure up on a mushroom trip,” Ratboys singer Julia Steiner said in a statement. “[The] guys and I nearly went insane fleshing out the arrangement and its odd timings together. I wrote the lyrics during that original demoing trip, centered around the idea of a fantastic, rural vision-quest where the days and nights blend together and nothing is quite as it seems.”
Ratboys have also announced a 2026 tour of North America, which kicks off February 25 in Detroit, Michigan and runs through mid-April. They’re set to perform at Pitchfork Music Festival London this November. Scroll down to see all of Ratboys’ upcoming shows.
