Queen Camilla Dons Sapphire Tiara at State Banquet With Trump & Melania

Queen Camilla continued her sapphire style streak in a Fiona Clare gown with a sentimental tiara during U.S. President Donald Trump’s and First Lady Melania Trump’s visit to the U.K. during the state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night.

Joined by King Charles III in his banquet regalia, Queen Camilla spotlighted one of her go-to British designers, Fiona Clare, in a long-sleeve sapphire gown with slightly puckered shoulders and flared cuffs. The gown also included delicate embroidery featured in a whimsical motif near the hem of the skirt.

Britain’s queen consort augmented her sapphire gown with special pieces of sapphire and diamond jewelry, including a tiara that paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II — the Belgian sapphire tiara.

The Belgian sapphire tiara has a long history that dates back to the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The piece was added to the long-reigning monarch’s jewelry collection roughly 10 years after she ascended the throne. She wore the piece on several occasions, including state banquets. Following her death in 2022, the tiara was bequeathed to Queen Camilla.

Queen Camilla added further jewelry pieces to her attire, wearing the Cartier Greville diamond festoon necklace and the Queen Mother’s Cartier diamond bracelets.

The British royal’s sapphire streak kicked off upon the Trumps’ arrival at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. To greet the Trumps, Queen Camilla wore a repeat sapphire blue Fiona Clare dress with a coordinated Philip Treacy hat and the historic Russian sapphire brooch, which also belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.

The Belgian sapphire tiara has seen many state banquets hosted by British royal family. Queen Elizabeth II memorably wore the jewelry piece in October 2015 for the state visit of President of China Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan. Following suit, Queen Camilla wore the tiara to the state banquet in honor of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, at Buckingham Palace in November 2022.
