Welcome to the Week 2 waiver wire watch!
The 2025 NFL season is finally underway and so too are the fantasy football campaigns for managers across all kinds of different formats. Some of you are probably already looking for upgrades at kicker following opening weekend and we’ve got you covered..
We’ll go over some Week 1 kicker performers that you should consider scooping off the waiver wire ahead of Week 2. We’ll classify a waiver add as someone who is rostered in roughly 40% of leagues at maximum.
Matt Prater, K, Buffalo Bills (1.5%)
One day you’re an assistant coach on your son’s youth football team and then a few day’s later, you’re booting the game-winning kick in the most anticipated matchup of the NFL’s opening weekend slate. That was the experience of Prater in the past week as his 32-yard-field goal lifted the Bills to a 41-40 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, capping an insane fourth-quarter comeback by the team.
The 41-year-old veteran was money all night, going 3-3 on field goal attempts and 2-2 on extra points to earn 12 fantasy points for the week. He signed with the team on Friday after Tyler Bass was placed on IR and when he first arrived, Bills players initially thought that he was a new coach. He’ll be hanging around with the team for at least the first month of the regular season and with how many scoring opportunities the Bills offense can create, it’d be wise to seek him out on the wire while you still can.
Week 2 matchup: @ New York Jets, 1 p.m. ET
Joey Slye, K, Tennessee Titans (0.7%)
Tennessee certainly had a rough time in its 20-12 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday and Slye ended up being responsible for all of their points. The veteran was a perfect 4-4 on field goal attempts on the Week 1 opener, netting 15 points for the minuscule number of fantasy managers who had him as a starter. It may take a while for No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and the Titans offense to start clicking, so they’ll really need to lean on Slye’s leg early in the regular season to keep them competitive. That should be enough for managers to jump all over him on the waiver wire.
Week 2 matchup: vs. Los Angeles Rams, 1 p.m. ET
Spencer Shrader, K, Indianapolis Colts (1.3%)
Indianapolis torched the Miami Dolphins in a 33-8 rout to open the season on Sunday and Shrader got plenty of opportunities to put points on the board. He was a perfect for the afternoon, going 4-4 on field goal attempts and 3-3 on extra points, netting 16 points for fantasy managers. The second-year kicker was waived by the Colts midway through last season and with his performance in Week 1, he may actually stick around in Indy this time around. Fantasy managers should certainly be lining up to scoop him off the wire this week.
Week 2 matchup: vs. Denver Broncos, 4:05 p.m. ET
