Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is finally here and opening weekend will continue on Sunday night with the Baltimore Ravens visiting the Buffalo Bills at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
After once again falling to the Chiefs in last year’s AFC Championship Game, the Bills will begin the new season with the hope that this will be the year that they finally break through to the Super Bowl. Josh Allen will mostly have the same group of weapons from last season at his disposal and one of them is wide receiver Khalil Shakir. He enters the year with an ADP (average draft position) of 45 according to FantasyPros, so he’ll be coming off the bench for most fantasy managers to start the season.
Below, we’ll go over Shakir’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 1.
Fantasy Football analysis: Bills WR Khalil Shakir
Shakir was Allen’s go-to option through the air last season, commanding a team-high 100 targets for 76 receptions, 821 yards, and four touchdowns. His 5.1 catches per game tied him for 16th-most in the league and he was well above league average in almost every other statistical category. That allowed him to finish the regular season as WR37 in PPR leagues with 12.2 fantasy points per game.
Signing a four-year contract extension in February, he factors to be a major part of the Bills offense for years to come and the sheer volume of targets he’ll receive this year makes him a top sleeper candidate in PPR leagues. He’s increased his production in each of his three seasons in the league and we’ll see if that continues in 2025.
Start or sit in Week 1 standard/PPR leagues?
Start. Shakir is the top receiving option in Buffalo and Allen should target him early and often in this primetime showdown. His high volume of targets makes him a savvy choice to slip into a Flex spot, especially in PPR leagues. If you have him, I say start him.
