Xavier Worthy injury update: Chiefs WR ruled out with shoulder injury in Week 1

Update: Xavier Worthy has been downgraded from questionable to out due to his shoulder injury. The Chiefs passing game has not been able to get off the ground with Worthy out. Hollywood Brown has seen the most usage in Worthy’s absence, but also has a drop. They’ll need a receiver to step up now that they are in a 10-0 hole midway into the second quarter.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is dealing with a shoulder injury after colliding with Travis Kelce on the Chiefs first drive against the Chargers. He was in obvious pain on the sidelines and is heading to the locker room to be checked out.

The Chiefs were already down their top receiver, as Rashee Rice is currently serving a six-game suspension. Hollywood Brown, Travis Kelce, Tyquan Thornton and JuJu Smith-Schuster will now be called on for more usage moving forward.

If Worthy were to miss time, there isn’t really a receiver that would step up into his role, but Brown would be the most-likely. Brown has dealt with numerous injuries himself this summer. Replacing Worthy would most likely be a group effort, pushing Patrick Mahomes to spread the ball out even more than usual.

Expect the running game to get more usage, with Isaiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt becoming more important to the offense if Worthy is out for any amount of time.
