Indiana Fever forward Chloe Bibby is out for the season with a left knee injury, becoming the team’s latest player to receive bad injury news. Bibby, who initially joined the Fever in late July on a seven-day contract, immediately made an impact in Indiana.
Across 9 games with the Fever, she averaged 3.9 points in 9.8 minutes, shooting 39.1% from three. Prior to joining Indiana, Bibby showed her impact in a brief stint with the Golden State Valkyries.
But Bibby has been out with injury since August 17th, and on Thursday morning, the Fever officially ruled her out for the remainder of the season. In her place, the team announced they are signing Bree Hall to a rest-of-season contract.
Bibby, a 27-year-old forward who made her WNBA debut this season, is the latest Fever player to be ruled out for the year. Last month, the team lost guards Sydney Colson (torn ACL), Aari McDonald (broken foot), and Sophie Cunningham (torn MCL) to season-ending injuries. On top of that, star guard Caitlin Clark has appeared in only 13 games this season and has been sidelined with a groin injury since July 15th.
Still, the Fever remain in the playoff conversation, currently with the WNBA’s 8th-best record and a 1.5-game lead over the Los Angeles Sparks for the final playoff spot.
Bree Hall gets another opportunity with the Fever
With Bibby out for the season, the Fever have signed rookie guard Bree Hall to a rest-of-season contract. Hall, who was drafted 20th overall by the Fever in April, has been waived twice this season — first by the Fever in May, and then by the Valkyries in June after she spent two weeks in the Bay Area.
Hall, a former South Carolina standout, has yet to appear in a regular game with the Fever this season but played three games for the Valkyries for a total of 12 on-court minutes. She did appear in an exhibition game against the Brazil National Team on May 4th, tallying 9 points and 4 rebounds.
Now, the 22-year-old sharpshooter will bolster Indiana’s guard depth for the home stretch of the season.
The Fever have three games this season — a home contest on Friday against the Chicago Sky, a road game against the Washington Mystics on Sunday, and the season finale in Indiana against the Minnesota Lynx.
