Nike G.T. Future Fire Sneaker Release Date

After teasing the futuristic sneaker for much of the year, Nike is preparing for the debut release of the G.T. Future.

The Nike G.T. Future Fire will launch the dynamic basketball sneaker in a can’t-miss orange colorway with a subtle gradient. Its sculpted upper invokes the Air Foamposite One, a landmark basketball sneaker that launched in 1997. Nike hasn’t specified what its single-piece upper with medial ventilation holes is actually made of, but it’s compared its swooping lines to a car or a spaceship.

Inside is a bootie to hug the foot and boasting a padded heel lock system for containment. And while the midsole is practically invisible, a forefoot Air Zoom unit within a full-length Zoom Strobel is paired with Cushion 3.0 foam.

“The G.T. Future is a new, radical, Nike-only expression of innovation, materials and form — built for the next generation,” G.T. Future designer Jason Petrie said in a press release formally announcing the sneaker last month. “The shoe is designed to evoke emotion and promote performance with incredible bounce, a great ride and a super clean look, ushering in a new era of possibility for today’s young hoopers.”

Tipping off the G.T. Future’s potential for lifestyle appeal is its embrace by Wale, who was one of the first people to wear the sneaker publicly. The rapper is well known as a premier sneakerhead and for his affinity for the Air Foamposite One, much like other Washington, D.C. natives.

The Nike G.T. Future Fire will release Sunday, exclusively in New York City, with just 300 pairs available. Those interested in purchasing will need to attend the NY vs. NY game in Central Park and scan in-person QR codes for the opportunity to purchase. Pricing is set at $200, and the sneakers will begin shipping in approximately four months.
