2025 Open Championship: Scottie Scheffler solo leader after Friday at Royal Portrush

Somethings the chalk thing happens.

Two rounds into the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush… the number one player in the world is playing exactly like that. Scottie Scheffler is here and he is on fire, folks.

Scheffler fired an incredible round where he went 7-under on Friday, good for the round of the day at Royal Portrush. For what it’s worth Brian Harman, Chris Gotterup and Bryson DeChambeau each carded rounds just one stroke back.

But at the end of the day Scottie Scheffler is Scottie Scheffler and he is reminding everyone of that fact with the brightest lights turned on. Harman lurks at T3 (-8) and Matt Fitzpatrick is one stroke back of Scottie, who is 10-under for the tournament, so there are major champions well within striking distance… but coming away with the Claret Jug this weekend is going to be a tall task for the field against Scottie as they are fully and totally in his world right now.

A win on Sunday would put Scottie 75% of the way through the career grand slam as he holds two Masters green jackets and the Wanamaker Trophy that he won this year.

It sort of feels like destiny at this point. How could you possibly bet against it happening?
