Welcome to the 2025 NBA Draft.
Unlike last year, this season lacks drama at the top of the board. Phenom Cooper Flagg is a virtual lock to be the first pick later tonight, with the Dallas Mavericks having won the first-overall selection in this year’s NBA Draft Lottery. The Duke star is a menace on both ends of the floor, with the ability to defend on the perimeter and own low, and the skills to flash offensively in both the high and low post, as well as outside the arc.
After Flagg, Rutgers guard Dylan Harper looks to be the second-overall selection to the San Antonio Spurs. The son of former NBA star Ron Harper, the younger Harper has elite play-making skills, but is a bit of a streaky shooter.
After Flagg and Harper is where the chaos might begin. Ace Bailey, Harper’s teammate at Rutgers, looked like he might be the third-overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. But Bailey’s stock has taken a hit in recent weeks, with figures from current Sixer Paul George to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro questioning his pre-draft process.
If Philadelphia does head in a different direction, Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe might be that direction.
The festivities kick off later tonight. But before the picks start coming in check out SB Nation’s Top 60 Big Board, as well as deep dives into Collin Murray-Boyles and Harper.
